Makeovers Shabby Paints

A faux copper lamp refresh

Taking a break from the never-ending deck… I had to get my paint on. I grabbed a super ugly lamp and went to town with Shabby Shimmers…

I started with a quick coat of Shabby Paints Marsala Wine chalk acrylic paint (you can see the start on the bottom of the “before” picture.

After the Marsala Wine dried, I used Shabby Shimmers in Copper Kettle with a VERY red and clean copper result. Not at all what I wanted (bottom half of the picture below). I knew I needed to dull it up, deepen it, and give it texture so I added Brown Bronze Shimmer with a stiff brush and a splotching motion leaving blobs all over (top half of the lady below):

After I finished it looked like this:

I came back the next morning and it looked like this:

Soon much better! Now for the fun part. Patina and age! I grabbed some So Serene and brushed it all over:

and then just started wiping it off with a dry t-shirt rag until I ended up with something that looks like this:

She’s so much happier…now I guess I should do the same for her friend…

Doesn’t she just seem happier?

I plugged her in and got sparks.. so I guess I need to pick up wiring quickly.

…but her before and after is pretty impressive:

Sorry about the mess…. I’m overloaded. please forgive my messy workspace. I figured you’d rather see progress than nothing.

XO!

Thanks so much Jocelyn! I had a lot of fun playing with it to make it work.
