You may recall the fabulous dresser I was given to refresh and restore to it’s glory days…. I finally finished it this evening and I cannot wait to show it to you!!

After much deliberation I decided to strip the top and just heavily wax it.
(I need to get a bit off topic here- if you’ve never stripped furniture before, I would like to warn you- it’s a mess. It’s gross, truly one of the grossest things I have probably ever done- ick. I will have to do it for the Hoosier… if I can avoid EVER doing it again after that, I will be a happy girl)
Once I stripped it, the edges were quite a bit lighter than the veneer piece so I used a bit of stain to bring them as close as I could color-wise. Then I gave it a thick coat of wax and sanded the top with 600 grit sandpaper and added another fairly thick coat of wax the next day.
I also painted the body blue and the hardware white. I am really pleased with the result….
And one last shot of the dresser before and after….
What do you think?
My apologies for the cruddy pictures – some day I hope to have a decent camera so the pictures will look better…(it’s on my very short list of desires)

October 22, 2012 at 10:09 AMThe white against the rich blue is a fantastic contrast!! It turned out wonderfully. I’ve never stripped furniture. For pretty much the exact reasons you’d recommend no one ever attempt it!

October 23, 2012 at 2:03 PMThank you ladies! I only stripped the top. I am starting to dread the Hoosier… has to be done though.. maybe I will start it today since the weather is supposed to be wonderful for the next two days… not feeling motivated, but not thinking the Hoosier will care. 🙂
