Just Me

How about some Lemonade?

I now interrupt your regular blog for a bit of an uncommon post for me. Stay with me though.. I am about to tell you about something pretty incredible if you like fresh lemonade, orange juice, or any other citrus juice. It’s so easy and quick you can make it every day if you’d like.

Those who know me personally, are aware that I stay as far away from the kitchen as I am possibly able. I am not a cook, I don’t even profess to play one on tv. I “can” cook, I just do not at all enjoy it. It completely stresses me out and I panic at the thought of even having to try to figure out how or what to put together for a meal.

My youngest children go to Montessori school. Montessori is all about independence. This sounds fantastic…  in theory, in practice it takes patience… LOTS of it. Independence means letting them pour juice and get snacks all by themselves. It means sticky floors and lots of stools to trip on. It IS great.. and then sometimes it is not. Today we’re focusing on the awesome part though. 🙂 I am also not “super crafty, project” mom. Yes, this may seem a bit odd.. but I am not. I will do projects and crafts with my kids, but not generally something that really even occurs to me normally.

At school at the end of the year, they made lemonade. of course it was so much fun, they wanted to do it again…and again… Do you have any idea how hard it is to juice lemons by hand? I also discover the many cuts and abrasions all over my hands from DIY every time we do this. News Flash: Lemon juice HURTS y’all. The time can be an issue too… nearly an hour of cutting and squeezing and muddling doesn’t leave you with much juice. Kids drink fast… and then want more.

While I do enjoy doing this with them and I love a good glass of lemonade, I don’t have 3 hours a day to be juicing lemons. Surely they make something that does this better and hopefully much faster. Amazon to the rescue!

…and I am totally visual so I thought with a pretty picture like that, a price under $30, and Amazon’s incredible return policy, what could it hurt?

a few days later, it arrived. I didn’t even tell the children. The box looks like this:

Looks simple enough. And seriously it is. that plastic “blade” in the center is how you slice the fruit. It isn’t sharp enough to hurt anyone. Once you slice, you place each half on one of the rotating reamers. They have baskets around them and catch the seeds before they get anywhere near the cup.

You simply plug it in and press down on the top and the machine does the rest. The juice flows into the cup at the bottom and you have pure juice to make a drink, salad dressing, or whatever you like.

Clean up is a breeze as well. The pieces are dishwasher safe, though completely unnecessary to do it that way. It was so much easier just to give a quick wipe down with a soapy sponge, rinse and leave it out to dry. Easy Peezy to disassemble and reassemble.

It’s actually fun and the kids can easy use it alone (if you want them to). They can juice while I make the simple syrup. They have fun, everything isn’t a sticky mess, my hands don’t hurt, and everyone is happy: It’s a WIN all around!

I guess a product review of the type is a bit different for me, but I really do love this thing. I figure if I love it, than surely someone else will too. No one sent it to me, or asked me to do this. I really do think it’s this good.

If you like fresh citrus juice, you need to give this a try!
