Makeovers van Gogh collection

New life for a mirror

Cruising through Pinterest looking for inspiration on the backlog of projects I have this morning I came across a gorgeous frame collection for sale on Etsy. It reminded me of the cool ornate mirror I picked up at an estate sale a few months back (my apologies for the cruddy photo)

Not unattractive, but really lacked “life”. The gilding is in decent shape, just kind of dull.

Enter van Gogh chalk paint collection “Patina”… this color is SO incredible! I just love all the things you can do with it. It’s an amazing neutral with a bit of something for those who are afraid of color and can be combined with so many other colors to really stand out in the crowd too!

I worked in sections so the paint didn’t get too dry. I wanted it to stick but not totally.

No matter how hard I try, I always seem to photograph my feet… Ugh. Anyway, then I took a wet cloth and wiped it back in the raised areas and even in some of the crevices.

Then I let it dry.

It’s huge. I have no where I can hang it to show you so I grabbed a wreath hanger and put it up on my front door.. it should give you an idea of how large it is too. I suppose you could hang it width wise as well.. it just isn’t set up for that currently.

Pretty. I don’t really have to wax it since it probably wont get much contact.. I might though, I can’t decide. What are your thoughts?

I love it! It looks great like it is. The only thing I might do is put a glaze on top? Maybe something from the furniture makeup.

Thanks Amy! I thought about it.. it looks pretty old and way cooler in person. I’m afraid to mess with the paint “slurry” that left such a cool haze. I have another mirror to play with. I may try the FM on that one.

Would look amazing as a centerpiece laid on a dining room table to reflect whatever is put on top. Candles and flowers or as is.

OOOO, it would, wouldn’t it? It would need to be a long table, but for the right event, it might work out really well! Great idea- thank you!

It’s gorgeous! I have a large frame by our front door that could use a little color. I have to figure out what to put in it first – LOL!

Paint it first and maybe what to put in it will “come” to you. 🙂
